The Farmers Branch Finance Department includes the Administration, Accounting, Information Services, Purchasing, and Municipal Court Divisions. The Finance Department is dedicated to providing quality financial and information services to achieve internal and external customer satisfaction in a manner that is effective, efficient, equitable and courteous.

The responsibilities of the Finance Department are to:

  • Develop and implement financial accounting policies and procedures
  • Contract for the purchase of goods and services in compliance with City policies and State laws
  • Protect and optimize the financial resources of the City
  • Provide a sound accounting system for safeguarding the City's assets through the recording and reporting of financial transactions in a manner consistent with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and legally mandated standards; and serve all users of the City's computer systems, Geographical Information System (GIS), and telephone system

The departmental goals are to:

  • Participate in the development of sound fiscal policies
  • Provide sound fiscal management for the City
  • Maintain a high credit bond rating
  • Provide for the management and investment of available funds consistent with criteria for safety, liquidity and rate of return
  • Develop computer systems, including the City's GIS
